About Me

Hi, I’m Zen—your friendly neighborhood book mistress.

I’m a lifelong bookworm who never tires of reading, recommending, and discussing stories of all kinds. For as long as I can remember, I’ve been the person who strikes up conversations in bookstores, swaps recommendations with librarians, and happily loses track of time debating books with friends.

Since 2008, I’ve also had the joy of facilitating a local book club with about a dozen active members. Over the years, we’ve read a huge variety of books (you can see the full list on my [Book List page]), and our discussions are always lively—even when we don’t agree! From time to time, I may invite one of our members to share a review here, and when I post about a book we’ve read together, I’ll often weave in some of their thoughts too. My hope is that it will feel like you’re sitting in with us.

This blog is my way of bringing that love of reading into a bigger conversation. Here, you’ll find:

  • Honest reviews of what I’m reading now
  • Reflections on past book club picks
  • Opportunities for “read alongs” with my book club (check the [Read Along page] for upcoming picks and join the conversation in the comments)
  • And, most importantly, a place to connect with fellow readers

I’m not a professional critic, just a passionate reader who wants to keep improving at putting my love of books into words.

When I’m not reading or leading book club discussions, you’ll probably find me knitting (that passion will eventually get its own blog!).

If you’d like to reach out, suggest a book, or just talk stories, you can find me at:

So, whether you’re here looking for your next great read, or just someone to gush—or argue—about books with, you’re in the right place. Pull up a chair, grab a cup of tea (or your favorite drink), and let’s talk stories.

Your favorite book mistress,
Zen

About the blog

Your daily dose of unhinged chaos – where romance is reckless, characters are feral, twists are with a body count, and the spice is non-negotiable… But… that is just my opinion.
