The Rosie Project (Don Tillman #1)
Title: The Rosie Project
Author: Graeme Simsion
Overview
This funny, feel-good novel follows Don Tillman, a brilliant but socially awkward genetics professor who’s never even made it to a second date. Convinced love just isn’t something he’s wired for, he decides to approach it scientifically by creating the “Wife Project,” a detailed plan to find the perfect partner.
Then he meets Rosie.
She’s everything his plan says to avoid spontaneous, messy, and totally unpredictable. But when Don agrees to help her track down her biological father, his carefully ordered world starts to shift in ways he never expected.
What follows is a warm, witty story about love, logic, and how the best connections rarely go according to plan.
Review
I read this book in November of 2025 for the Sterling Street Book Club. Here was my review.
While I found the plot engaging and truly liked the characters, I think I would have enjoyed The Rosie Project even more if it had been told from Rosie’s point of view.
I found myself wanting to hear her internal monologue and connect with her laid-back nature, likely because, in my own life, I’m the structured partner married to a ‘Rosie’ type.
There were several scenes, especially when Don acted out of character, where seeing the world through her eyes would have been fascinating.
Final Thoughts
This book gets 3 out of 5 stars from me.
That said, I still absolutely recommend this book. Even if the POV wasn’t my personal preference, the story is strong and the author stayed true to his vision. It’s a great read for anyone who enjoys seeing the world through a unique lens.
Much love from your Favorite Book Mistress,
